Derek Anderson Browns Terminate Landing Contract Spots

In 2007 Derek Anderson threw 29 touchdowns, made the Pro Bowl and looked like he might be the future of the Browns organization. Today, there is a new regime in Cleveland and Anderson was released, becoming a free agent. Here are the top five teams who might be interested in his services and whom he might look to join.

Anderson joined Cleveland via waivers from Baltimore in 2005 and spent the last five seasons with the Browns. He appeared in 39 games with 34 starts during that time and completed 587 of 1,109 passes for 7,083 yards with 46 touchdowns and 45 interceptions.

“I want to thank Derek for everything that he gave to the Cleveland Browns organization over the last five years,” said Browns Head Coach Eric Mangini. “He did everything we asked of him and it was a pleasure to coach such a competitive person. I want to wish him all the best in the future.”

“The fans are ruthless and don’t deserve a winner. I will never forget getting cheered when I was injured. I know at times I wasn’t great. I hope and pray I’m playing when my team comes to town and (we) roll them.”

Anderson was cut after four years in Cleveland that included a Pro Bowl appearance in 2007. But his final two seasons there were lackluster, and included Cleveland fans cheering when Anderson suffered a season-ending knee injury on Nov. 30, 2008.

“I never heard from anyone until today,” Anderson told the News-Herald. “Nobody ever tried to reach out to me, which is fine.”
