Australia won the toss and elected to bat
The Black Caps followed up Sunday’s super-over victory in their Twenty20 clash with an exciting two hatch win, chasing down Australia’s total of 8-275 with four balls to standby to take a 1-0 lead in the five series.
Man-of-the match Ross Taylor, who stands as a captain for the fresh extraction of Daniel Vettori (neck injury), hammered a run-a-ball 70, while a late cameo from Vettori replaces Scott Styris (49 not out from 34 balls) culminated in him to hit Doug Bollinger a very tall six to win the race.
Shane Bond (11 of eight) was another hero, suggests Shane Watson for two boundaries in the 49th over, when he and Styris took 12 runs from it, and then Styris broken Doug Bollinger over his head for six to send the crowd of 8,257 into frenzy. He struck seven fours and six totals.
It was New Zealand fifth successive one-day international victory over Australia at home and gave them an airborne start in their effort to wrest back the trophy in the five-match series.
