The Chappell-Hadlee Trophy remained in Australian hands after Ricky Ponting and Cameron White led the team to a six-wicket victory guaranteed the series 3-1. Rain played a part of the result, but it was the best New Zealand watered down batting display, which left fans feeling depressing, and this Saturday, the fifth match in Wellington for a dead-rubber status.

New Zealand was skittled out under par score of 238 in 4 ODI against Australia in Auckland. Replace the bat by Ricky Ponting was kiwi by a handout that Brendon McCullum and Martin Guptill hit Aussie bowler around the park to take them to 63 in the first 8 overs.

Daryl Tuffey had other ideas, and the physically powerful Pacer Nathan Hauritz hit three sixes to push the score past 200th, he constant his power frame, but in the end Aussies managed to bowl out New Zealand for 238 with 35 deliveries still left.

The Man of the Match, White was cool with an unbeaten 50 and Hussey finished on 28, which reduces any tensions Australians felt when Adam Voges (34) taken at midwicket by 50 runs still wanted. Shane Bond had kicked things off and to New Zealand with Brad Haddin caught at slip in the first over, but Ponting and Watson cruise from there.

Ponting cracking 50 from 35 balls as well as eight fours and six, as Australia reached 115 for three from 20 overs in chase of their rain reduced target of 200 from 34 overs.

Nathan Hauritz took three important wickets, and there were two each for Watson, James Hopes and Mitchell Johnson, who early and late bursts from New Zealand bookended an aching expression. When James Franklin (10) was unfortunately stopped his legs attempting a brush off Hauritz, they were 177 for 7 and a sub-200 total was on the cards.
