The 2010 Hockey World Cup will be the twelfth instalment of the Men’s Hockey World Cup. On November 14, 2007, the International Hockey Federation FIH announced that the championship would be held in India, taking place over two weeks from Feb 28 to March 13, 2010 at New Delhi’s Dhyan Chand National Stadium.
The players boarded a bus to travel from Lahore to Delhi via the Wagah border. Pakistani Team is among the first three foreign teams to arrive in India to play in theHockey World Cup, which begins on February 28. The other teams are Australia and South Africa.
Pakistani Team Manager, Asif Bajwa said that they boarded the bus instead of a flight to spread the message of peace. He also revealed that Pakistani PM Yusuf Raza Gilani told them that they are the ambassadors of Pakistan.While teams from Australia, South Africa and Pakistan have already reached New Delhi, a few other teams, including Canada and Argentina are scheduled to arrive today.
The Hockey World Cup tournamentis an international field hockey competition that was first played in the Spanish city of Barcelona in the Autumn of 1971. The 2010 Hockey World Cup features ten nations which includes Argentina, Canada,Germany, Korea, Netherlands, New Zealand, Australia, England, India, Pakistan, South Africa and Spain.
The tickets have been classified in four categories — general admission, general admission premium, VIP and VVIP. The price for the first category of ticket is Rs.100 for the group stage matches and Rs.150 for the finals. Fans will have to dole out Rs.500 and Rs. 750 for the general admission premium category. The VIP rates are Rs.1000 for the group stages and and Rs.1500 for the final while for VVIPs, it is Rs.5,000 and Rs 7,500.The Hockey World Cup 2010 will witness the following teams competing to get the top honour.
