Congress leader and MP Rahul Gandhi will be here Friday morning to talk to students and young Mumbai, two days after he was warned by the Shiv Sena to “keep out of Maharashtra.
The Sena activists have prepared to greet him with black flags wherever he goes and the Mumbai police began to round up some Sainiks to head off possible problems in the course of Gandhi’s short trip to Mumbai.
Among those arrested was a parliamentary borough chiefs in Sena, a ‘shakha‘ (local units), chiefs and other activists.
According to a spokesman for the Bombay Regional Congress Committee (MRCC), about 11 Mr. Gandhi will meet students at Bhaidas Auditorium in the glamorous Juhu area where students from various cities are invited.
“He will give a short address to them before a select group of students have individual interaction with him, said the office bearer.
In the afternoon, Mr. Rahul go to Ghatkopar, north-east of Mumbai, where the Ramabai Ambedkar Nagar slum is located.
He wants to Garland a statue of Bharat Ratna Babasaheb Ambedkar, the pedestal and interact with selected slum youth.
Spokesman said the two meetings were held with an eye for Mr. Gandhi’s desire to meet young people and students from different walks of life.
Mumbai police have made tight security during Mr. Gandhi’s half-day visit to Mumbai to make sure it goes off peacefully.
