“This is a welcome step,” said Assistant Secretary of State for Public Affairs, PJ Crowley, told reporters at Foggy Bottom headquarters of the U.S. State Department.

“We support dialogue between India, Pakistan and Afghanistan as a key element in moving forward and achieve a stable region,” said Mr. Crowley, in response to a question.
“We have certainly been encouraging step that both Pakistan and India can take to resolve common problems and take appropriate action so that the tension can be reduced to increase collaboration and as a result you have a more stable region that is focused on threats both interests as the parts and threats that they share, “said Mr. Crowley.

Terming it as a breakthrough in Indo-Pak relations, a US-based strategic think tank has said that New Delhi bid to get the foreign minister level talks with Islamabad is driven by India’s concern over the Taliban appeasement in Afghanistan.
