Islamabad, Feb.22 : Although India and Pakistan prepare for Secretary-level talks listed to be held on 25 February in New Delhi, the prospect are not high on any “breakthrough” in negotiations.
Pakistani authorities believe that the talks will mainly be an investigative discussion, in the absence of an agreement between the two parties on the need to have a real discussion.
Sources royalty to the State Department said Islamabad’s policy will be to remain positive during the negotiations and try to get “a honest and all-inclusive” dialogue “about the status of two-sided relations.
“There is no fixed program, and we will discuss the full range of our relations, counting long-standing issues as Kashmir and more urgent matters such as water disputes,” the Dawn quoted an official as saying.
Pakistan’s seven-member allocation will travel to New Delhi on Wednesday, including representatives from the FO, and also officers from the water and power ministries.
United States, which has worked hard to get India and Pakistan to address the board, is also aware of the complexity of making both adjacent countries come to some conclusions.
U.S. Secretary for Defense Policy Michèle Flournoy, lately urged both Islamabad and New Delhi to show “political courage to overcome the hiccups in joint relations.
