Fatness ‘often set earlier than age of two’

A survey of more than 100 obese children and young people found more than half were overweight at 24 months and 90% were overweight at the age of five.

A quarter was heavy before they were five months old, the researchers reported in Clinical Pediatrics.

In the United Kingdom, approximately 27% of children today are overweight.

The children in the study – which had an average age of 12 – were all overweight or heavy at the age of 10

While many adults consider a heavy baby healthy, too many chubby children grow up to be round teens, saddling them with type-2 diabetes, high cholesterol and high blood force, says a new study.

“I think this should be a Wake up call for doctors,” said senior study researcher John Harrington, a pediatrician and professor at Eastern Virginia Medical School (EVMS).

“Too often, doctors wait for the medical complications arise, before they begin reading. What this study suggests is that obesity deterrence should start much earlier,” said Mr. Harrington.

This review came in the middle of an upsetting level of child obesity, which is now among the most well-known health anxiety in the United States today.

“Getting parents and children to change habits that have previously taken hold is a massive challenge overflowing with roadblocks and disappointments,” said Mr. Harrington.

This study shows that we may need to discuss the unlucky weight gain in early babyhood in order to affect significant changes in the present trend of obesity. ”

These findings were available this month in Clinical Pediatrics.
A Department of Health spokesman said: “What happens in the first years of a child’s life have a major collision on how in good physical shape they are in the future.

“Despite recent hopeful statistics showing that child plumpness may be leveling off, obesity levels are still too high, and it is central that we maintain the impetus going.”
