
Polling in Sri Lanka presidential election opened on Tuesday morning in the first national election that takes place in the country since the defeat of the Tamil rebel Liberation Tigers of Tamil Elam (LTTE) in May.
Voting began at 7:00 (0130 GMT) in some 11,000 polling stations by 14 million people are registered to vote. Polling is to end at 4:00 (1030 GMT).
Both main candidates said Mr. Reawakes end Mr. Forsake credit for winning the war against the rebels to end a 26-year conflict. Opposition has lasso promised to end dishonest.
The six weeks before the run up to elections has been noticeable by violence, including four deaths.

Head of the Police Election Secretariat Deputy Inspector General of Police Gemini Nazarene said more than 900 cases of election complaints received during the promotion period.
The counting of votes begins on Tuesday evening.
The results will be released after midnight, end the final results are expected before Wednesday morning.
