Leander, Sania sail through; Bhupathi shocked in doubles



MELBOURNE: It was a day of good quality results and an upset to India by Australian Open in Melbourne Park here on Thursday. While Leander Paes and Sania Mirza made the predictable advancement in the men’s and women’s doubles, Mahesh Bhupathi made a shock out of the Men’s Doubles event on a cloudy day.


Paes and Lukas Dlouhy, winners of two Grand slams in the last year, started 2010 on a positive note, and make rapid work of Czech pair Leos Friedl and David Skoch 6-3, 6-1 in an hour. From the moment the Indo-Czech pair broke their opponents’ serve up in the first game, it was about Paes and Dlouhý on the court No. 19, as No. 3 seeds under enemy control proceedings.
