Dhoni could lose top spot to Hussey

Indian skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni’s control at the top of the ICC ODI batting charts can come under risk from Michael Hussey, who’s Australian manages to carry his good Test form in one day series aligned with Pakistan starting in Brisbane on Friday.

Hussey has a chance to regain the number one place from Dhoni for the first time since concession instead of Durban ODI against South Africa in April 2009, the ICC said in a announcement.

Hussey and Dhoni are the only two batsmen with more than 800 ratings points as the Australian Indian trails by 21 points. A couple of good battles with the bat in the series will transport Hussey ahead of India captain.

Moreover, Hussey, Ponting and the Australia vice-captain Michael Clarke in the top 20 both have an outstanding chance to move up the steps. Ponting sits in fourth place just 11 points following South Africa’s AB de Villiers, while 18th-placed Clarke is 19 points behind 14th-ranked Paul Collingwood of England.

If Pakistan wins series 3-2 or better, they will rise to as high as fourth, but would be in seventh spot if they fail to win a single game in the series. In the event of a 3-2 series victory, Mohammad Yousuf side will earn four points that will put them jointly with New Zealand on 112 ratings points but in front of Daniel Vettori side of a portion of a point.
